Mermaid 'Ate' Holy Monk

Jelly Lin the Mermaid
The Mermaid with Stephen Chow

Jelly Lin, the 19-year-old star of the Chinese New Year hit The Mermaid, was reported to be in a serious relationship with Feng Shaofeng, the 37-year-old star who plays Xuanzang in another festive film, The Monkey King 2.

Although previous rumours of the romance had been written off as stunts to generate publicity for the movies, Chinese online media company I Am Paparazzi said today that the relationship is real, and published its proof, including a video of the couple.

It said it caught the pair together more than once, including at a meeting with Feng's father at a tax office in the actor's native Shanghai, on Feb 6, two days before Chinese New Year.

On Feb 7, Lin, a native of Huzhou, Zhejiang province, shared photos of a reunion dinner on Weibo, but she deleted them after she was alleged to have been in Feng's kitchen, said NetEase website.

The couple have been together since May last year, around the time Feng and actress Ni Ni annouced their amicable break-up, said I Am Paparazzi.

Lin is the latest star being launched by comic Stephen Chow, after actresses including Cecilia Cheung to Kitty Zhang.

Feng is the star of television dramas such as King Of Lan Ling (2013) and films such as Wolf Totem (2015).

How to Date Jolin Tsai

Jolin Tsai started recording music since she was a teenager in the 1990s - putting herself on our radar in 2003 with Magic, her fifth studio album, which sold over 1.5 million copies in Asia and earned her the distinction of being Taiwan's best-selling female singer.

Following this, the pop princess secured her A-list status with a string of Chinese hit albums - Castle, J-game, Dancing Diva, Agent J - with each one achieving Asian sales of over 2 million copies.

She even explored her crazier side in Play, the title track off her latest studio album, which thrust her back in the spotlight (although the album's last song, We're All Different, Yet The Same, can also claim the dubious honour of achieving as much when it made headlines for being censored in Singapore).

And yet, despite the fact that Jolin practically grew up in public (as we all do these days with social media) and studied English literature at university, she has revealed precious little behind her tightly managed image (and tight costumes) outside of her homeland.

So when the Jolin Tsai 2015 Play World Tour stopped by Singapore for a one-night-only extravaganza, we took the opportunity to ask the 35-year-old about dating etiquette and what she looks for in a man. As it happens, it contrasts with her public image much more than we'd expect.

There's no ideal type
"Romance can be difficult to make sense of. Sometimes it just feels right, which may be the key to finding a partner. My kind of guy is someone who is honest and kind-hearted. He doesn't need to be ripped, but he does need to have hobbies, an active lifestyle and an interest in health. That's because I usually exercise at least three days a week."

You'll have to compete with her career...
"I see both career and love life as equally important. Relationships should be based on mutual trust and interdependence, and at the same time allow both of us to have our personal space."

...and her friends too
"When there's some downtime, I'll take the chance to catch up or party with my friends. I also turn to my friends when I'm feeling down."

Filial piety isn't out of date
"Among all the characteristics a man can have, filial piety stands out as an attractive trait that women will want in men."

Exude confidence, not arrogance
"How confident you are determines your sex appeal. But I dislike rude and arrogant guys."

Don't leave romance to chance
"I believe in fate. But I also believe that love is a process between two people, understanding each other better to make the relationship work. While there may be no such thing as a perfect relationship, what's important is for a couple to have that goal in mind and work towards achieving that."

Chou Tzu-yu Outraged China

Chou Tzu-yu, a Taiwanese, is now embroiled in a controversy after she waved Taiwan's official flag on a recent online broadcast, earning the ire of Chinese online users, who insinuated that she had a sinister pro-Taiwan independence agenda.

Immediately after the backlash, the visibly weary teenager appeared in a Youtube video apologising for her actions. The video, published on Friday (Jan 15), has since been viewed nearly 3 million times.

Many Taiwanese have reacted unfavourably to the wrath of Chinese online users, with Taiwan's presidential candidates wading into the row, defending the young K-pop starlet.

Online users in Taiwan said that Chou's apology was produced under immense pressure, and it was tantamount to bullying and intimidation by China.

According to AFP, a Chinese TV channel had cancelled an upcoming show featuring Chou's K-pop band TWICE. Chinese smartphone manufacturer Huawei has also withdrawn advertisements featuring Chou in the South Korean market.

Who is this girl who has caused all this online chatter?
1) Chou was born in Tainan, Taiwan on June 14, 1999.

2) According to a fan page dedicated to Chou, the Taiwanese was talent scouted to Korea in Dec 2012 as a JYP Entertainment trainee after a talent scout was impressed by her performance in an online video clip. JYP Entertainment is one of South Korea's largest record labels, and counts artists like Wonder Girls and 2AM in its stable.

3) The 16-year-old was recruited into K-pop band TWICE after surviving a reality show, Sixteen, created by JYP Entertainment and Mnet that premiered May 5, 2015, and ended on July 7, 2015.

4) Out of 16 contestants on the reality TV show, nine were chosen to form TWICE. The contestants came from five countries: Canada, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and Thailand. Chou placed 8th among the 16 contestants.

5) TWICE was initially meant to be a seven-member K-pop group. During the final episode of Sixteen, JYP Entertainment announced that TWICE will be a nine-member group. Chou was nearly eliminated from Sixteen, but survived thanks to votes from online audiences, thus inducting her as a member of TWICE.

6) Chou, together with her multi-national K-pop girl group, made its debut on Oct 20, 2015 with a mini-album The Story Begins.

7) Within two months after their debut, Chou's TWICE awarded Best New Female Artist at the 2015 Mnet Asian Music Awards, an annual major K-pop music awarding ceremony.

Lynn Xiong Is Too Sexy For Donnie Yen

The film "IP MAN 3" had a production wrap banquet and a trailer premiere press conference yesterday.

Director Wilson Yip Wai Shun with actors Donnie Yen Chi Tan, Max Zhang Jin, Lynn Xiong (Hung Doi Lam), Karena Ng Chin Yu attended.

Boss Raymond Wong Pak Ming also appeared. Chi Tan and Zhang Jin also posed for photos with Bart Cham Dao.

Lynn was so sexy that even Chi Tan joked that he did not dare to look at her directly, reports HKTopTen.

He asked her if she went to the wrong place. The film will open against Star War Episode VII during Christmas.

Zhang Jin said that it would be the best for the audience to watch both. Chi Tan said that he had a part in another Star Wars film, so it did not matter which one performed well.

The most important was for the audience to like it. Speaking of Zhang Jin's nose injury during the shoot, he said that he still has the scar now.

As for working with former world boxing champion Mike Tyson, Chi Tan admitted that he was very excited. Yet before the shoot he was worried that he would not be used to making a movie. If he took one of his punches he would truly die. Thus he already thought about how he would dodge if Tyson forgot the choreography. He joked that during the shoot Tyson truly forgot, luckily they were fine.

They also became good friends. On the last day, he was reluctant to part. Lynn said that in the film she had to slap Chi Tan.

She held back for the first and second time. By the third time she hit hard and finally completed the scene. Lynn said that she dressed up yesterday because she has not seen everyone in a long time. Did Chin Yu dare to dress like her? She said that she did not, and her boyfriend Raymond Lam Fung would not approve anyway.

With Angelababy's impending wedding, Lynn and Chin Yuboth said that due to work they might not be able to attend.

Chin Yu said that she has already prepared her gift; Lynn said that she was in the age to marry, now she is waiting for someone to ask. However she said that her boyfriend still has not proposed.

Actress Yoon Eun Hye accuses designer of using her for fame

Yoon Eun Hye's label released an official statement on her plagiarism accusations by the designer Yoon Choon Ho.

According to allkpop, she said, through her label,

First, I'd like to apologize for worrying the many fans in Korea and China. This is my stance on accusations that the outfit in the 4th episode of 'The Goddess' Fashion' is similar to designer Yoon Choon Ho's outfit.

'The Goddess' Fashion' is a reality program where the 'goddess' and the designer becomes a team. A total of 5 teams make about 20 outfits that fit the mission per week and get judged on by buyers. We have to make about 20 patterns, finished outfits, and accessories, within a week.

Every week, I go through a process for inspiration to prepare the collection. We have to fit the topic, and we have to engage with one movie per episode. The concept for the 4th episode was 'the great nature,' and our team's sub-topic was 'snow' and 'lion'.

The movie we chose was 'The Chronicles of Narnia'. To express the white snow and lion in the movie, I used all white for the outfit color and took motivation from the lion's mane for the frills.

To fill the lacking parts in a short time, we're always investigating and studying to get better every episode. We've been studying from a very long time ago until now to gain the basic information of design and have been studying design and preparing clothes.

This is why we researched brands that have used lace and frills, which has been loved since 2000. We researched frills that have been loved for 10 years by referencing the well-loved frill style's representative brands of Viktor & Rolf, Isabel Marant, the 2014 S/S Lanvin, and Dries van Noten.

Finally, I got an idea from the 2008 Viktor & Rolf's trend from 10 years ago and the 2014 S/S Lanvin collection that could express the lion. Looking at a feather decoration from the arm of an outfit, we made the coat's arms into a lovely frill. We did not plagiarize designer Yoon Choon Ho's outfit and we have no reason to.

The shape and placement of the frills on the arms are by combining the popular trend. Because the place of the frills on the arms and the white color are similar from designer Yoon Choon Ho's outfit, we think it must have looked even more similar.

Even more flustering from our point of view is why he never contacted the label and never contacted the stylist. He expressed his opinions in a one-sided manner on SNS and we're sad about his words that read, 'A few days ago, the actress and her stylist borrowed this from me with my support. Now they're saying they both made it. I got goosebumps.'

We've sponsored other clothes by designer Yoon Choon Ho before, but because it's still summer, we have not received the 2015 F/W clothes. It isn't true that the stylist picked that outfit up, and we did not use it after getting sponsored. Because this is recorded in the brand sponsoring, you can confirm this fact.

Lastly, I'm disappointed that he brought up a plagiarism controversy through SNS without thoroughly confirming information. We hope that you do not use Yoon Eun Hye's name to promote your brand from now on before the release of your collection.

Her response has largely met with disdain by netizens, who are unsure if Yoon Eun Hye has a large enough name to be used as a press play.
